Patricia ‘Pat’ Rutten, age 83 of Osakis passed away surrounded by family on Monday, July 16 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis. A gathering time will begin one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment is in the church cemetery.

Pat was born on June 19, 1935 in Holdingford, MN to Magdelene Roske.  She graduated from Osakis High School with the Class of 1953 and soon married Peter Rutten at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis on June 29, 1953.  They farmed for a time near Herman and Waverly, MN before returning to farm south of Osakis in 1959.  Pat raised a family of seven children and also worked as a seamstress, first for Bellanca Aircraft of Alexandria sewing airplane wings.  She later took work at Fingerhut Corp, Pete’s County Market and Elden’s Foods.  She was proud of starting her own tailoring business with her daughter Victoria.  It was named Rutten Sew-In and they did many specialty products, tents, awnings and specialized in aprons and custom hot pads for area businesses.  Throughout the years Pat also made many specially sewn gifts for her own family and friends.  She also loved to garden and had beautiful flower beds.  She collected special seed slips and looked forward to trying new varieties.  Her family was her first priority however and she was a loving mom and a doting grandma.  She loved living in the country and caring for her pet dogs and cats.  She wouldn’t miss a chance to visit with neighbors and friends over a cup of coffee and also enjoyed playing cards and attending area dances in her younger days.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Pat is survived by her children, Linda (Ron) Gadacz of Foley, Christy (Dennis) Johnson of Pine River, Jerry (Marie) Rutten of Alexandria, Victoria (Greg) Brede of Osakis, Stephan (Karla) Rutten and Tony (Lisa) Rutten, all of Alexandria, John (Laura Johnson) Rutten of Fergus Falls; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; siblings, Darlene (Joe) Hinnenkamp of Eagle Bend, John (Butch) Neussendorfer of Sauk Centre, Ken (Sue) Neussendorfer of Oriska, ND, Marie Fraune of Wadena, Phyllis (Clarence) Woitalla of Pillager, Robert (Barb) Neussendorfer of N Charleston, SC; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete in 2006, and her parent Magdelene and Paul Neussendorfer, siblings, Wilfred Neussendorfer, Jeanette Holmquist and Pauline Julseth.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with a gathering time beginning at 10 am.   Fr. David Petron is officiating.  Special music will be performed by great-grandson Tony Winkelman, who will also serve as the urn bearer. Readers are Jessica Petrick, Samantha Rutten and Kelley Winkelman.  Honorary bearers are C J Rutten, Jeffrey Rutten, Shawn Rutten, Matthew Rutten, Keith Gadacz, Curt Peterson, Ricky Peterson and Grayson Brede.  A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs at the Edgewood Vista in Alexandria, the Galeon in Osakis, as well as the St. Croix Hospice of Sartell –especially Lucy Saatzer-  for all of their care and kindnesses to Pat and her family.
