Life History for Agnes Hickman
Agnes 'Aggie' Hickman, age 68 of Osakis passed away on Monday, August 8 at the Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN.
Agnes Mary Winter was born on July 15, 1943 in Wilmont, MN to Edward and Lucille (Schettler) Winter. She grew up in Wilmont, MN but moved with her family in 1957 to the Nelson/Osakis area and was a graduate in 1961 from Osakis High School. After high school, she worked and lived at home until her marriage on Sept. 4, 1965 to Duwayne Averill in Osakis. She raised her family in St. Paul and then returned in 1984 to live in Nelson, MN and soon was hired by the 3M Company in Alexandria. She worked for 3M for almost twenty years. On September 16, 2000 she married Franklin Hickman and lived on a hobby farm northeast of Osakis.
Aggie was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria and later the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis. She also belonged to several clubs while an employee at 3M.
Besides being known for her keen sense of humor, Aggie was always counted on to organize the activities at any of the family get-togethers, such as the annual Easter Egg hunt and the pickle-boat races. She was also counted on to be the 'camp' cook each deer hunting season. In addition to her cooking talents, Aggie was also a great baker and was often asked to make wedding cakes. She liked to go on outings to the casinos with her sisters and also enjoyed just being outdoors, either tending her flowers or feeding the birds. Aggie loved being a mother and grandma and was happiest of all when surrounded by family and friends. Blessed be her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Ron Bettin and stepchildren, Clem Hickman and Tammy Fiering and step grandson, Jake Bergman.
Surviving her is her husband, Franklin Hickman of Osakis; sons, Allen Averrill of Pine City, MN and Bradley Averill of Elk River and a daughter, Charleen (Todd) Pietrowski of Alexandria, MN;3 stepchildren, Kim Marks, Punky Bergman and Angie Will, all of St. Paul; 7 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren and 17 step great grandchildren; 1 great, great step grandchild; her siblings, Bernice (Rollie) Revering of Austin, TX, Joe (Debbie) Winter of Stillwater, Betty (Adam) Bock of Osakis, Terry (Rick) Castro of Alexandria, Marge Bettin of Millerville, Paulette (Dale) Venzke of Almora, Doug (Kim) Winter of Austin, TX, Rod (Barb) Winter of Leander, TX, Mark (Verna) Winter, Lynn Mensen, Steve (Dawn) Winter, all of Alexandria, Mike (Cindy) Winter of Bernet, TX; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection was held for Aggie on Friday, August 12 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Fr. David Petron officiating. Pallbearers were her six brothers. Interment was at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria, MN.
