Alyce Stankey

September 14, 1920 — March 3, 2017

Alyce Alberta Stankey began her earthly life on September 14, 1920 in Middleville Township near Howard Lake, MN. She was the daughter of Duncan and Edna (Robinson) Johnson. She entered her new life on March 3, 2017 from the Milaca Elim Care Center in Milaca, MN.
Alyce was only twelve years old when her family moved to Dassel, MN. She grew up there and after her schooling, took care of her elderly parents. They had one son together and named him Roger. 1977, when they moved to Osakis, MN the Stankey's purchased the M & M Tavern, which they operated for several years (in addition to some other businesses) until their retirement. After Reuben's death in 2003, Alyce moved into assisted living apartments in Osakis, until her failing health required a move closer to family.
Alyce was very active and a life member of the Osakis VFW Auxiliary, serving as its president six times. She also became active in the District VFW Auxiliary leadership, serving in various offices and chairmanship roles, including President. Alyce was proud to have been the District Department Banner Bearer and was the National Home Chairperson for over 14 years. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. All of these organizations benefited greatly from her leadership and generous spirit. When not busy with Auxiliary activities, Alyce enjoyed going to play bingo, taking long walks, and going camping with her family. She was an active person who loved to play softball or go ice skating or roller skating. She taught her children the benefits of being of service to others, staying active and leading a healthy life. She was a loving, hardworking and dedicated mother and proud grandmother to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
