Life History for Arlene Byland
Arlene Byland, age 72 of Alexandria, MN went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria.
Arlene May Jensen was born on December 20, 1937 in Bertha, MN to Alfred and Alice (Emmen) Jensen. She was raised in Bertha and on April 1, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dellis Byland in South Dakota. After Dellis finished his tour of duty with the U.S. Army, the young couple moved to North Dakota and worked for a restaurant where Arlene did waitressing and Dellis worked as a chef. In 1964 they moved back to Minnesota and settled in Blaine where Arlene found work at a machine shop. She worked there until her retirement in 1993 when they moved to a home on Lake Darling in Alexandria, MN.
Arlene had many interests. Some of her favorites included cooking and baking. She was very comfortable in the kitchen, whether it was making cookies or cleaning some freshly caught pan fish. She loved to go and catch fresh fish off of the end of their dock. Camping, card playing or stopping to try her luck at the casinos were other past times she enjoyed. She was an excellent seamstress and also kept busy working on various cross stitch projects. Arlene was a devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandma who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Dellis Byland of Alexandria; 4 children, Dellis Douglas Byland of Alexandria, Jacquelyn (Bill) Ulwelling of Elk River, Pamela (Hoyt) Hanson and Wanda (fiance, Mike Kauppi) Snow, all of Blaine; 8 grandchildren; 10 great, grandchildren; a brother, Ardel Jensen of Minneapolis; 3 sisters, Audrey (Al) Jacobson of Coon Rapids, Ruby Dvorak of Clarissa, Beverly Schiro of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Calvin, Junior, Carol and Dale Jensen.
Funeral services for Arlene were held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Honorary bearers were the members of the Knute Nelson Memorial Home staff. Active bearers were Michael and Al Ulwelling, Jordan and Steven Snow, Richard and Robert Byland. Interment was at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis.
