Darlene Schluender-Ibler, age 81 of Little Falls, formerly of Osakis passed away on Friday evening at St. Otto's Care Center in
Little Falls, MN.
Darlene Elaine Owens was born on November 30, 1929 in Crosby, MN
>to Jay and Myrtle (Wills) Owens. She attended grade school in Motley, MN and then moved to the Osakis area, graduating in 1947. She married Lawrence Schluender on October 6, 1948 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis.
They lived in rural Osakis and Darlene worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's construction business. For six years she also helped with her son's strawberry patch business. After Lawrence's death in 1983, Darlene was married to Leo Ibler on January 1, 1986 in Brownsville,
Texas. They enjoyed wintering in Texas, and Darlene kept busy as the Activities Director at their retirement village. She also enjoyed reading, baking, oil painting, golfing and gardening. When living in Minnesota she also enjoyed getting out ice fishing. She was a former member of the Immaculate Conception parish and the Chamber of Commerce in Osakis, MN.
Darlene is survived by her children, Barbara(Dennis) Fjeld of Little Falls and Michael Schluender of River Falls, WI; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Schluender of Pillager, MN; 7 grandchildren; 9 great, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son, Stephen Schluender; 2 brothers, Douglas 'Buck' and Hugh Owens; 2 sisters, Alice Dunn and Kathryn 'Polly' Randall.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis with Fr. Ken Reideman officiating. Interment was at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Osakis with pallbearers being her grandchildren.
