David Collins

David "Dave" R. Collins, age 82, of Osakis died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Galeon Community Memorial Home in Osakis.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018, at Lake Community Church in Alexandria with Pastor Marvin Norlien officiating. Music is provided by pianist, Ginger Hetland and vocalist, Dana Hetland. Burial is at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Belle River.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

David Roger Collins was born on August 31, 1935, to Michael and Marie (Brouns) Collins in Osakis. He grew up helping on the family farm while he attended Country School District #41, and graduated from Osakis High School in 1953. Following his education, Dave was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Beverly Chapman on August 24, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis. Together they lived and farmed with Dave's parents until they moved onto the farm in 1957, which was homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1869. During his time farming, Dave worked at 3M for eight years. He continued to farm until 1986, when he began working for Palmer Industries and continued there until his retirement.
Dave enjoyed playing a variety of sports, especially bowling. He bowled with the same team of Gary Collins, Darwin Hetland, Darrell Schultz, and Jimmy Withers for 35 years. Dave loved dogs, horses, and trapping gophers. He also loved gardening, especially raising watermelon and tomatoes. He loved his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brother, Roger; and infant grandson, David Collins.

Dave is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bev; five children, Roxann (Rick) Severson of Carlos, Kim (Pam) Collins of Alexandria, Lonny (Nancy) Collins, Tom Collins, and Michael (Ann) Collins all of Osakis; two sisters, Vivian Murphy of Dwight, Illinois and Kathleen Hetland of Osakis; brother, Gary (Judy) Collins of Carlos; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Ryan Severson, Kris Collins, Timothy Collins, Cory Collins, Nate Hoelscher, Valu Raturibi, Brent Frisell, Kyle Leaf, and Matt Berghoff.
