Life History for Dorothy 'Dolly' Sorenson
Dorothy 'Dolly' Sorenson, age 83 of Osakis passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at her home in rural Osakis, MN.
Dorothy Ulrich was one of twins born on December 1, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN to William and Meta (Kruger) Ulrich. After high school, Dolly worked as a seamstress. She married Robert Thotland in 1941and had a son, Terry Robert. Dolly worked as a sales manager for Montgromery Wards for many years. She was married to Lyle Vold in 1946and they had a son, Julius. Because of her excellent sales skills, Dorothy eventually went to work as a sales rep for Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Minneapolis. She also worked at the State Fair each year selling sewing machines. On July 31, 1976 Dolly was married to Allan Sorenson in Minneapolis. They moved to Osakis in 1987 and Dolly volunteered her time as a foster grandparent at Osakis Public School. She was also a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid.
Dolly was someone who enjoyed people. She liked to travel and took several trips to visit her son in Maryland and also to visit family in Florida and friends in California. She loved to work in her flower garden and kept her hands busy during the winter months crocheting or playing computer games.
She is survived by her husband, Allan Sorenson of Osakis; a son and daughter-in-law, Julius (Florence) Vold of University Park, MD; 3 grandchildren, Lyle Vold, MD, Tonya (Mark) Erickson of Staples and Terry Allen Thotland of Staples; 3 great grandchildren, Terry Lowell, Teresa and Tasha Erickson; a brother-in-law, Russell LaBelle of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 sisters, Laura Otheim of ND and Lydia 'Babe' Cook of Plymouth; many nieces and nephews.
Dolly is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Terry Robert Thotland; brothers, Willard and Art Ulrich; sisters, Marie Schumacher and a twin, Doloris LaBelle.
