Life History for Ellis 'Al' Halgrimson
Ellis 'Al' Morris Halgrimson passed away on May 27, 2009 in Alexandria, MN.
He was born on October 30, 1919 to Albert and Alice (Morris) Halgrimson in Clare, Saskatchawan, Canada. The family moved to the Brooten area in 1925, residing there until 1934 when they moved to Aitkin County, MN.
Ellis 'Al' was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Aleutian Islands area. He was stationed at Prince Rupert, B.C., Canada. On May 5, 1943 he married Emaline Christensen. They lived in several locations in Minnesota before settling in Osakis,MN in 1964. He retired in 1981, moving to a forty acre place in the Miltona area.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. His sister said many times, "He could catch fish in the bathtub!" Not really, but he certainly caught his share of fish over the years.
Al ran a body shop for many years, even continuing to work on projects after his retirement.
To this marriage was born three daughters, Ramona, Gayle and Susan.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emaline Halgrimson of Alexandria, MN; daughters, Ramona Darling of Foxhome, Gayle (Larry) Brynulfson of Osakis and Susan Hagen of Alexandria; 9 grandchildren and 18 great, grandchildren; 4 brothers, Albert Halgrimson and Chrise (Lorraine) Halgrimson, all of Palisade, MN, Melvin of Elk River and Harold (Barbara) Halgrimson of Tucson, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Melissa Hagen, 3 brothers, Ole, Mervin and Alfred Halgrimson; 4 sisters, Othilda Preston, Ida Hawkins, Myrtle Handt and Edith Swanson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:30 pm at the Rose City Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Jim Brown and Rev. Larry Pearson officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Marlene Pearson and soloist, Elsie Gustafson. Pallbearers were his nephews, Mike, Randy and Dale Halgrimson, Harlan and Ronald Handt, Charles Pollack.
Arrangements were with the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
