Floyd Rooney, age 88 of Little Sauk, MN passed away late Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN, when he could meet his wife, Marge in a new life instead of having to mourn her passing at the memorial service scheduled for her that next afternoon.

Floyd was born on December 17, 1929 in Osakis Township, Douglas Co., MN to Violet (Hanson) Rooney.  He attended high school in Osakis and enlisted in the U S Army Air Force in 1947.  He attended military school and was trained as a radio operator.  He was honorably discharged in 1949 from Andrews Air Force in Washington, DC and received the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp.  He served in Japan, Guam, Iwo Gima and Okinawa.  After returning home, Floyd married to his high school sweetheart, Marge Gillan on July 9, 1950 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis.  They moved first to St. Paul, and over the years lived in the cities of New Brighton, Andover and Coon Rapids, before retiring to a home near Little Sauk in 1998.   Floyd worked in industrial machine maintenance for American Can for over 17 years.  He attended the Roseville Police Academy School in 1957 and then did part time work for the Ramsey Co Sheriff and the New Brighton Police Department.  He volunteered with the New Brighton Civil Defense and was trained as an Emergency Medical Technician.  Upon retirement, Floyd had more time to enjoy his hobbies of fishing and hunting near his hometown.  He also liked to do wood cutting and planted and shared the bounty from his garden each year.  He was a kind and loving father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children, a son, Douglas (Nancy) Rooney of Cambridge, MN and a daughter, Laurie Ghizoni of Little Sauk; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Sy (Joy) Rooney, Jr. of Blaine, Bob (Ann) Rooney of Clearwater, Joe (Maryann) Rooney of Brooklyn Park, Margaret Oslund of Elk River, Jean (Lloyd) Graves of Long Prairie, Kathy (Clint) Davis of Eagle Bend, MN; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Marge who passed earlier this month on July 5 and his sister, Stella Berg.

Memorial services will be held on August 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis with Rev. Rich Fitzer officiating.  Special memories will be shared by his daughter, Laurie Ghizoni.  A gathering time will begin at the church one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment with full military honors will take place at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
