Life History for Gladys Schlosser
Gladys Schlosser, age 85, left her earthly life unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from her home in Osakis, MN.
Gladys was born on January 31, 1926 in Douglas County, MN to Frank and Esther (Quinn) Spieker. She grew up in Belle River township and did local housekeeping and worked at the City Bakery. She was married on May 14, 1946 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River to Vincent Schlosser. They farmed for many years in Belle River Township. For twenty-five Gladys worked as a nurse's aide at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis. Upon retirement from the farm, the Schlosser's moved to a home in Osakis. Gladys was an active member of both the St. Nicholas and Immaculate Conception parishes. She attended daily Mass and belonged to both the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella organizations. Though small in stature, Gladys had a big heart when it came to serving others. She volunteered many hours of time to the benefit of area seniors. She volunteered at the Osakis Nutrition Center as well as the Carlos, Alexandria and Osakis Senior Centers. Gladys belonged to the Senior Citizen clown group and was a member of the Osakis VFW and Community Memorial Home Auxiliaries. She also worked as a driver for Senior Companion, taking seniors to various appointments. Gladys was recognized for her many hours of dedicated service when she received the Jeffersonian National Volunteer Award.
Besides the joy she found in helping others, Gladys also liked to tend her flowers, try her luck at bingo games and loved going to area garage sales. She was a kind and generous mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Kay Schlosser of Carlos, Wallace (Karen) Schlosser of Nelson, Dale (Betty) Schlosser of Sioux City, IA, Gregory (Susan) Schlosser of Sartell, Margaret (Daniel) Senn of Rochester, Ralph Schlosser of Nelson and Anthony Schlosser of Osakis; 19 grandchildren; 13 great, grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Evelyn) Spieker of Hawley, MN and a sister, Rita Morton of Haltom City, TX; brother-in-law, Clemens Schlosser of New Mexico and a sister-in-law, Arlos Mattson of North Dakota; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vincent in 1989, eight children; 2 sisters, Alvina Becker and Evelyn Waldvogel; 3 brothers, Ambrose, David and Edward Spieker.
A Mass of Resurrection was held for Gladys on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11:00 am with Fr. David Petron officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Evan, Billy, Bobby, Jacqueline, Emmaline, Louisa, Melody and Melinda Schlosser, Christy Cronquist, Lucinda Pulak, Monica Jacobs, Sharla Howard, Matthew Payne and Thomas Howard, and also the members of the VFW Auxiliary and the Christian Mothers. Active pallbearers were Eric, Adam, Justin, Sean and Robert Schlosser, George Howard, Paul Pulak and Chad Cronquist. Interment was at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Belle River, MN.
