Janice Frank

Osakis

Janice June (Johnson) Frank, age 88, of Osakis, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2022, surrounded by family at Galeon Senior Living.

Janice was born on June 5, 1934, in Quamba, Minnesota to Oscar and Hazel (Erickson) Johnson.  Janice grew up in a large family of twelve children on a farm in the Moose Lake area.  She graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1953 where she was a talented majorette and worked at a local drive-in.  After high school, Janice moved to the Twin Cities and was employed as a bank teller.  It was there that she met the love of her life, Kearney Frank. They were married a few months later on December 1, 1956.  From this blessed union, Kirby was born in 1957 and Kimberly in 1959.  After the children finished their high school education, Janice worked at Honeywell for 11 years.

Many family vacations were spent fishing on North Long Lake and Lake Osakis, staying at Black’s Resort.  Together during their retirement years, Kearney and Janice spent winters in Las Vegas and traveled to various destinations, by flying and taking cruises.  Janice’s favorite trip was traveling with Lurton’s Carole to Europe.

Janice will always be remembered for her excellent sewing abilities.  She was an accomplished seamstress, and had her own business.  She sewed numerous wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, drapes, stylish clothes, doll dresses, and baby layettes.  In her later years, she made hundreds of quilts, embroidered dish towels, and sewed beautiful  banners for church.  Janice belonged to the Osakis VFW Auxiliary and the Osakis Lutheran Church quilters group.  She had a huge heart and would gladly help others in need.

Janice especially loved spending time with her beloved husband, catching fish, and showering love on her family.  Janice’s pies were amazing and pie crust cookies were a favorite for the kids. Janice will always be remembered for her wonderful kindness to others, her beautiful sewing projects, and her fabulous fish fries.  Janice will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janice is survived by her loving husband, Kearney; son, Kirby (Mary) Frank of Eden Prairie; daughter, Kimberly (Keith) Olson of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Chelsie (Spencer) Chan, Megan (Jake Stille) Frank, Alyssa (Emma Wright) Frank, Bennett (Elizabeth) Olson, Meredith (Adam) Sommers, and Nathan (Mikaela) Olson; and great-grandchildren, Warren, Jalene, Audrey, Elsie and Eleanor.  Janice is also survived by brothers:  Lurton (Carole) Johnson of Buffalo, Steven (Jeanne) Johnson of Moose Lake; and Ivan (Carol) Johnson of Surprise, AZ; and sisters: Irene Rizner of Big Lake; and Nancy (Kermit) Jusczak of Richfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Curtis and Michael; and sisters, Allison, Dolores, Marlowe and Mary Lou.
