Joan Marie (Kulzer) Kraemer, age 88 of Osakis passed into the glory of Heaven Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, from the Galeon in Osakis surrounded by her loving family.
Joan (Joanie) was one of thirteen children born into the family of John and Rose (Tillman) Kulzer. She was born in Greenwald, MN on October 22, 1935. She graduated in 1953 from Melrose High School. After graduation, Joanie worked at St Michael’s Hospital and the dental office in Sauk Centre. On June 29, 1959, she married the love of her life, Ray Kraemer at the Church of St. Andrew in Greenwald, MN. For many years Joanie was an active member of St. Alexius parish in West Union, where she served as a teacher for catechism, a Eucharist minister, and on the sausage supper committee. She was one of the founding leaders of the West Union Country Kids 4H. Joan was also an active member of Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. She is a past president of the VFW Auxiliary in Osakis. Joanie and Ray retired from the farm in 1992 and moved to Osakis. After Ray’s passing in 2021, Joanie remained at the assisted living facility in Osakis. She is a member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis.
Joanie’s steadfast love for her family was reflected in her wonderful cooking and baking skills. She could bake a lemon pie or make potato salad like no other. To carry on the tradition, she shared her recipes in a cookbook she made for many of her friends and family. Over the years, Joanie loved assisting her grown children with different house projects, especially painting. She enjoyed doing crafts, reading, and watching TV; most often the news. During their retirement, Ray and Joanie spent 18 well-deserved winters in Mesa, AZ. Joanie will leave a legacy of love and faith in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Julie (Tom) Traynor of Devils Lake, ND, David (Julie) Kraemer of Blue Springs, MO, Connie (Andy) Quistorff of West Union, Lisa (Kevin) Hoffman of North Port, FL, Ken (Stephanie) Kraemer of Osakis and Jon (Kari) Kraemer of Brainerd; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Dale of Louisiana; many nieces and nephews.
