Life History for Karen Collins
Karen Collins, age 69 of Osakis went to meet her Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from her home in Osakis, MN.
Karen Joan Bruzik was the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Zaviska) Bruzik. She was born in Minneapolis, Mn on May 13, 1939. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1956 and took classes to become a dental assistant. She also kept busy playing in a family band with her brother, Marvin and an uncle. On April 18, 1960, Karen was united in marriage to Dean Collins in Lake Reno, MN. They lived in Alexandria for five years and then moved to Osakis to raise their family. Karen also worked from her home as an independent contractor doing market research.
As a very active member of Immaculate Conception parish, Karen served as a church volunteer and was past president of the Catholic Women's Association and past president of the Alexandria deanery. She was also belonged to the Christian Mothers Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered her time at St. Agnes School and also taught religious education for over thirteen years. For many years Karen would lead the rosary before Masses and for funerals. She received the Medal of Honor for her tireless years of work for the Church from Bishop George Speltz for the Diocese of St. Cloud.
Another important part of Karen's life was music. She was a talented musician who could sing and play several instruments. She gave guitar and accordion lessons and shared her musical talents in many ways. She also enjoyed painting, corresponding with family and friends and surfing the computer. She was a kind and caring wife, mother, sister and proud grandma. Blessed be her memory.
Karen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dean Collins of Osakis; 4 children, Tammy Brown of Elbow Lake, Todd Collins of Osakis, Gina (Steve) Lang of Osakis and Dr. Michael Collins of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Maureen) Bruzik and a sister, Dona Wagner, all of Alexandria; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Karen on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Music was provided by the church funeral choir. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
