Larry Gettel

Larry Bernard Gettel, 59 of Osakis, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Memorial services will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:00AM. A public visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 5:00PM-7:00PM, as well as one hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial will be at West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis following a funeral luncheon at the funeral home.

Please wear jeans and a t-shirt -- any comfortable clothing. Larry would not want you to be dressed up.

Larry B. Gettel was born May 11, 1967, in Alexandria MN, the son of Virgil and Delores (Roering) Gettel and was raised on the family dairy farm in Osakis, MN. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, MN in 1985 and went on to tech school for artificial insemination. From then, he was the breeder for the family farm. Larry worked in town for a few years, but his heart was with the cows on the family farm. Virgil and Larry created a partnership, and later Larry would fully take over the family dairy farm.

While building the farm up, Larry met the love of his life, Tammy Sue Vanderby. They were united in marriage on August 19, 1995, (after Larry got his manure spreader!) and went on to have three children: Jocelyn, Evan, and Jeremy. Alongside raising kids and farming, Larry loved to spend time shooting darts on dart league, fishing, and spearing. With Larry's love and passion for spearing, he and a friend started the Minnesota Darkhouse Spearing and Angling Association chapter in Alexandria. It was during this time Larry was instrumental in getting Minnesota law changed so a person could spear and angle in the same fish house - a feat he was very proud of.

Larry passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 9, 2026. Larry's legacy will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Tammy Gettel of Osakis; his two children: Jocelyn (Wade) of Dalton, MN and Evan of Osakis, MN; sister, Janet (Larry) Rosch of Long Prairie, MN; brother, Lavern Gettel of Osakis; brother-in-law, Terry (Denise) Vanderby of Glenwood, MN; sister-In-law, Tayna (Dane) Hagen of Alexandria; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Larry is preceded in death by his son, Jeremy; parents, Virgil and Delores Gettel; father and mother-in-law, Allen and Dona Vanderby; sisters: Judy Gettel (Phil Doughtery) and Arlene (Greg) Blanchard; sister-in-law, Bernice Vanderby.
