Larry Lynch

June 20, 1943 — October 11, 2008

Larry Lynch, age 65 of rural Carlos died on Saturday, October 11 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Larry was born on June 20, 1943 in Osakis, MN to Earl and Helen (Weiher) Lynch. He graduated from Eagle Bend High School in 1961. Larry then joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in California, specializing in sharp-shooting and promoted to the rank of Corporal. He was united in marriage to Linda Avery in 1961 in Las Vegas, NV. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines Larry returned to Bertha, MN to continue his father-in-law's family farm until it was sold in 1967. He then moved to Osakis and began work at Fingerhut in Sauk Centre, MN advancing from lawn maintenance to warehouse supervisor. He worked there for 26 years until the plant closed and then moved to Alexandria, MN. On October 17, 1997 Larry was united in marriage Patricia Chadwick in Sisseton, South Dakota. He worked as supervisor of maintenance at Knute-Nelson Memorial Home, retiring after ten years. The Lynch's have lived in rural Carlos for the past six years.
Larry was a man of many talents. He had a talent for turning old things into new, whether refurbishing homes or tractors, or repairing lawn mowers and sewing machines. He was also a craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands taking great pride in his projects including building a home all on his own. He liked deer hunting, fishing, bowling, casinos and long drives in the country. Larry taught himself to sail and always looked forward to working in his garden each summer. He had a special love for his blonde "girls" - two female Golden Labradors Fischer and Bailey. Larry had a gift for turning a serious situation into something lighter and will be remembered by his family for claiming to be the "smartest and best looking" of the Lynch brothers! He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Lynch of Carlos; children, Chris (Tim) Touhey of Carlos, Barbie VanWagner of Coon Rapids, Julie (Paul) Steidl of Carlos, Bob (Sheila) Saiko of St. Joseph, Jeff (Michelle) Saiko of Alexandria; 9 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; brothers, Richard (Diane) Lynch of Osakis, Don (Ann) Lynch of New Hope, Gordon (Rosemary) Lynch of Osakis; a sister, Barbara (Ernie) Rische of Mora; many nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Sondra Jean Lynch and a sister, Loretta Lynch.
Funeral services for Larry were held on Wednesday, October 15 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert and Fr. Al Ludwig officiating. Musicians were organist, Pat Converse and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment was at the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson with military honors by the Osakis VFW Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers were Jim and Paul Lynch and Doug and Mike Kottom. Active bearers were Spencer Steidl, John Lynch, Dave Rische, Jon Rische, Rob Lynch, Mike Lynch, Josh Lynsen and Zack Lynch.
Memorials preferred to the research for Pancreatic Cancer, American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, MN.
