Life History for Lois Twito
Lois Twito, age 90, entered into the peace of Heaven early Sunday morning, January 18, 2009 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, where she had been a resident since 2007.
Lois Carrie Paulson was born on August 21, 1918 in Minneapolis, MN to Sigurd and Caroline (Lunde) Paulson. She attended high school in Minneapolis and worked in restaurants while a teenager. On June 13, 1943 Lois married Harold Twito at the Minnihaha Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Lois took a position as manager of the auxiliary lunch room at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis and worked there for ten years. She then worked at Everett's Bakery as a sales clerk and cake decorator. The Twito's lived on 42nd Avenue in Minneapolis (except for a year in Sheldon, Iowa) and after Harold's retirement from the railroad in 1972, they moved to a lake home near Pine River. They moved in 1977 to Deerwood and Lois worked as a salesclerk for the Skogmo's Dept. Store in Crosby for several years. After Harold's passing in 1985, Lois moved to Osakis in 1987. She lived in the DeCann Apartments in Osakis up until her 89th birthday.
Throughout her life Lois was involved with church activities, having sung in the church choir and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at her home church, Minnihaha Lutheran in Minneapolis. She was currently a member of Osakis Lutheran Church and belonged to the Sarah Circle. Lois was also a member of the Community Memorial Home Auxiliary in Osakis.
Lois was a great card player and was especially good at playing cribbage. She had a lifelong 'lucky streak' and also enjoyed going out for weekly games of Bingo. In the summertime she enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. She liked to sew and do crewel projects and was a wonderful cook, who will be remembered for her perfect Krumkake cookies each Christmas. Lois was full of life and enjoyed being with others. She was a kind and caring mother, grandma, great grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Twito of Maple Grove; a grandson, Brian Twito of Chaska and a granddaughter, Rebecca (David) Gerten of North Branch; a great granddaughter, Ava Gerten who is soon to be a big sister to another grandchild due to be born this summer; two sisters, Jeannette Gjersdal of Eden Prairie and Helen Kleinfehn of Plymouth; two sisters-in-law, Gunhield Paulson of Apple Valley and Wilma Paulson of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Harold in 1985, a sister, Lillian Worthington and two brothers, Arthur and Jim Paulson.
Memorial services will be held for Lois on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby, MN this spring.
Arrangements provided by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, MN.
