Loretta Marie (Schluender) Becker was born on February 2, 1926, in Osakis, Minnesota to Casper and Hyacintha (Fischer) Schluender. She graduated from Osakis High School, and then went to work at Woolsworth’s in Alexandria where she later worked as an accountant.
Loretta was united in marriage to Harland Becker on April 26, 1949, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis. They moved to South Dakota for a short time, before moving to a farm on the west side of Lake Osakis. The couple was blessed with five children, Richard, Harold, Barbara, Gerald and Michael. Loretta worked as a homemaker and also helped with the family farming operation.
Loretta enjoyed reading, puzzles, and gardening. She loved to travel in her later years, especially her trips throughout the United States. Although Loretta did not hunt, she enjoyed going on hunting trips with Harland.
Loretta died on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Alex Assisted Living in Alexandria at the age of 96. She is survived by her children, Richard Becker of Sartell, Harold (Deanna) Becker of Delano, Barbara Schieffer of Manhattan, KS, Gerald (Lynn) Becker of Oakdale; and Michael (Renee) Becker of Garfield; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Raymond (Margaret) Schluender, Richard (Judy) Schluender, Leo (Patricia) Schluender, Robert (Ardelle) Schluender; and many nieces and nephews. Loretta is preceded in death by her husband, Harland; parents, Casper and Hyacintha; brothers, Alois, Joseph, Emil, and Walter Schluender; sister, Agnes Kaas; and infant brother, Frank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Rosary at 9:30 AM and visitation to follow. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis.
