FUNERAL NOTICE for MARGE ROONEY

Marjorie Rooney, age 86 of Little Sauk, passed away on Thursday, July 5 at the Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN.  Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis.  Inurnment is in the church cemetery.  A gathering time will begin one hour prior to the service.

Marge was born on November 5, 1931 in Gordon Township, Todd County, MN, the only girl of four children born to Gilbert and Clara (Brakken) Gillan.  She attended Osakis High School and graduated with the Class of 1950.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Floyd Rooney on July 9, 1950 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis.  They moved first to St. Paul, and over the years lived in the cities of New Brighton, Andover and Coon Rapids, before retiring to a home near Little Sauk in 1998.  Marge went to work for the Mounds View School District lunch program, the first five years in the high school program and then the remainder of her 29 years was in the Highview Middle School Cafeteria as a Baker Manager.  During this time she was state certified as a food prep/ handler.  In addition to long work hours, Marge raised two children and was very proud to be able to care for each of her five grandchildren when needed as well.  Marge was active in her Lutheran faith and attended services in each of the communities in which she lived.  She also volunteered as a Brownie Troop leader for the Girl Scouts and as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.  Marge was a very organized person who took care of all of the family’s social events and kept track of all of the birthdays and anniversaries.  She used that information to keep in touch with family and relatives by sending lovely hand-written letters.  Marge also loved to read and wrote often in her journals.  Other hobbies included crocheting, quilting projects and doing furniture restoration.  She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Floyd Rooney of Little Sauk; son, Douglas (Nancy) Rooney of Cambridge and daughter, Laurie Ghizoni of Little Sauk; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Marjorie) Gillan of Blaine, MN; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers, Philip and Russell Gillan.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 22 at 2:00 pm at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis with Rev. Steve Hilde officiating.  Musicians are organist, Ione Johnson and soloist, Dana Hetland.  Special readings and memories will be shared by her son, Doug Rooney. A gathering time will begin at the church one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will take place at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
