Life History for Mark Anderson
Mark Anderson, age 61 of Long Prairie entered the peace of Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 from the Long Prairie Hospital in Long Prairie, MN after a courageous fight with brain cancer.
Mark Alan Anderson was born on October 14, 1950 in Bertha, MN to Arthur and Ruth (Olson) Anderson. He graduated from Long Prairie High School with the class of 1968 and then attended ROTC at Moorhead State for two years and then transferred to the University of MN for an additional year. On February 3, 1979 Mark was united in marriage to Vicki Lisle at the First Baptist Church in Long Prairie. For over 32 years Mark enjoyed his career at the Todd County Sheriff's Office, starting as a dispatcher and working up to becoming the Jail Administrator. He was a member of the MN Jail Administrators Association, the Salvation Army and a lifelong member of the Reynold's Baptist Church.
Mark loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed his hobby farm and had a natural love for the land. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved wild life and animals and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a great appreciation for the preservation of history. He belonged to the North American Hunters Association and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Mark, his friends and State Representative Mary Ellen Otremba, collectively worked to change legislation to better the future of muzzle loader hunting. He was also a member of the MN Dark House & Angling Association.
Mark is survived by his wife, Vicki Anderson of Long Prairie; his sons, Jason Anderson, Joshua (Rachel) Anderson and Joel (Marnita) Anderson, all of Long Prairie; 7 grandchildren, Ethan, William, Isaiah, Harold, Anna Lynn, Mahala and Julia Anderson; mother, Ruth Anderson; a brother, Steven (Sylvia) Anderson of Williams, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his father, Arthur Anderson and a sister, Laurie Squires.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 7 at 1:00 pm at the Assembly of God Church in Long Prairie with Rev. Allen Travaille and Rev. James Ekbom officiating. Musicians were organist, Peggy Sandelin and soloists, David Greaver and Dana Hetland. A special song, "Go Rest High on that Mountain" was sung by his son, Joshua Anderson. Interment was at the Reynold's Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Todd County, MN. Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren and the members of the Todd County Sheriff's Department. Active bearers were Noel, Gerald and John Van Valkenburg, Lee Simpson, August Riedel, Ron Shann and Marvin Mensen.
