Marvin Berg

August 3, 1928 — December 26, 2010

Marvin Berg, age 82 of Long Prairie passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Centra Care Health System in Long Prairie, MN.
Marvin Frederick Berg was born on August 3, 1928, delivered by Dr. Haberman at his office above the corner drug store in downtown Osakis, Minnesota to John 'Fred' and Karen 'Carrie' (Borton) Berg. He attended country school and enjoyed growing up on the family farm. As an adult, Marvin continued making his living on the farm throughout his working years. He sold the farm in 1988. It had just been named a 'Century Farm' the previous year. Marvin continued to live on the homestead until 1991 when he moved into the Prairie View Apartments in Long Prairie. Upon his retirement, he found time to receive his GED certificate during that same year. For over fourteen years. Marvin also volunteered his time to deliver Meals on Wheels to Long Prairie area seniors.
Marvin was a member of the American Lutheran Church and was active in the Men's Bible study group and faithfully attended many of the church's various functions. He also loved to play bingo and take in area auction sales. In addition to being an avid reader, Marvin was gifted with a remarkable memory for dates and events, which made him a valuable local historian.
Due to failing health, Marvin moved into the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing home in March of 2009.
Although he did not have any immediate family members living, he is survived by many cousins, his church family and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services were held for Marvin on Wednesday, December 29 at 2:00 pm at the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with Rev. Bill Bakewicz officiating. Musicians were organist, Ruth Zinter and soloist, Wayne Larson. Interment was at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Reynolds Township, Todd County, next to his parents.
