Mildred Barrett

Mildred 'Winnie' Barrett, age 92 of Osakis entered her new life on December 26, 2014 from the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Mildred Winnifred Kirk was born on January 20, 1922 in Minnehaha County near Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Alvin and Grace (Clark) Kirk. She moved with her family as a young girl to Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School in 1940. She married Richard Barrett in 1941 and they moved to California for a time and also Montana while Richard was in the service. They returned to make their home in Osakis and raised two sons. Winnie worked at the Osakis Liquor Store and also as a cook for the Osakis Public Schools. She then was hired to work on the wide belt assembly line at the 3M Company in Alexandria. Winnie worked there until she was able to retire. She moved into the Manor Apartments and then the Terrace Heights Assisted Living Apartments. Winnie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osakis, MN.
Besides her interest in people and ability to easily make friends, Winnie enjoyed going dancing and playing cards. She kept her mind sharp by working on daily crossword puzzles and was ready with a smile for anyone who stopped to visit. She was a kind and loving mother and grandma who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Winnie is survived by her sons, Donald & Jeanette Barrett of Centerville, MN and Jerry Barrett of Osceola, WI; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, Susan Barrett and a sister, Erma Dean Stenbakken.
A gathering time will be held for Winnie on Saturday, Jan. 10th from 1 - 3 pm at the Terrace Heights Chapel at the Galeon complex in Osakis, MN with a prayer service beginning at 2 pm.
