Richard Dale Peterson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Dale Peterson, affectionately known as Richie, who left us on June 13, 2025, at the age of 78 at his home at Salmon's Adult Foster Care near Alexandria, MN. Richie was born on May 27, 1947, in Alexandria to Roy and Agnes Peterson. Growing up on the family farm, he embraced the beauty of country life and carried on the farming tradition for many years.

Richie attended Osakis High School and was a familiar face at countless Osakis High School events, cheering on the Silver Streaks in football, baseball, and boys and girls’ basketball. He was the happiest watching sports especially the MN Vikings and MN Twins.

In addition to sports, Richie had a flair for classic cars and took great pleasure in watching stock car races at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria. He enjoyed fishing, going to the movies, bowling, and indulging in friendly competitions, including many pool tournaments at the Corral in Nelson, where he celebrated several first-place victories. Richie was also an accomplished woodcarver, skillfully crafting wishing wells that he lovingly sold as a hobby. Above all, Richie adored spending time with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

He is survived by his sisters, Doris (Curt) Hanson of Little Falls, Judy (LeRoy) Toenies of Akeley, and Ruth (James) Tessier of Farmington; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Peterson, sister-in-law, Nancy Peterson, sister Mary Witt, brother-in-law, Arlo Witt, brother Russell Peterson, niece, Jeanne Hanson; and a nephew, Michael Witt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis, MN.

A visitation will take place on hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday.

Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
