Life History for Robert 'Bob' Gray
Robert 'Bob' Gray, age 82, lifetime resident in Gordon Township, died peacefully at his home on Thursday evening, November 4, 2010 from his battle with cancer.
Bob was born on December 31, 1927 in Gordon Township, Todd County to Bernard L. and Louise (McKindley) Gray. He graduated from Osakis High School in 1946. For four years, from 1948 - 1952, Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of E-5 Technical sergeant. Upon return to civilian life, Bob continued working the family farm and also did road work for Starry Construction for several years. He was the former sexton of the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery and was also the caretaker for the Green Leaf Cemetery. Bob enjoyed being a member of the Gordon Community Club and socializing with his many friends and neighbors.
Some of Bob's favorite hobbies included being out in nature and enjoying all of God's creatures. He liked to spend time in the woods and did a lot of tree cutting. He also enjoyed reading and listening to Big Band and Swing music. He was a kind and gentle man who always looked for the good in others. Blessed be his memory.
Bob is survived by his brothers, Harold (Clausine) Gray of Scottsdale, AZ, Gerald (Diane) Gray of W. St. Paul, Samuel (Brigitte) Gray of Alexandria and Louis (Sherry) Gray of Osakis; eight nieces and nephews, Scott, Lori, Bart, Todd, Suzie, Mason, Dawn Brooks and Brian.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Dixie Gray.
Funeral services for Bob were held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Osakis with Rev. Tim Sutton officiating. Music was provided by organist, Ellen Bangtson and one of his favorite hymns, The Old Rugged Cross, was sung by his brother, Louis. Interment was at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery with active pallbearers being James Julig, Alden Johnson, Lonnie Iverson, Gary Mikkelson, Carl Farber and Dale Massmann. Honorary bearers were Eugene & Alvina Waldorf, Lois and Roger Neumann, Dan & Sue Klukken, Bill & Bernice Bretz, Harold & Roberta Laven, Don Hentges,Fr. Hilary Thimmesh, Carolyn Thimmesh, Harlan Tenhoff, Jesse Johnson, Rita Massman, Phyllis DeCann and Randy Randall. Military honors were provided by the Osakis VFW Post #7902 honor guard.
