FUNERAL NOTICE FOR ROSELLA BOOGAARD
Rosella Boogaard, age 95 of Osakis passed away on Monday, Oct. 19 at her granddaughter's home in rural Sauk Centre, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis. Visitation hours are from 4 - 8 pm on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Immaculate Conception Church with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4:30 pm and the parish prayer service at 7 pm. There will also be a gathering time beginning on Saturday morning at the Church at 9:30 am.

Rosella Marie Rutten was born on May 8, 1920 in her home in Butler, MN to Joseph and Katherine (Dykhoff) Rutten. She married John M. Boogaard at Holy Cross Church in Butler on her twentieth birthday, May 8, 1940. They began dairy and grain farming in Butler, MN. The Boogaard's moved to the Osakis area in 1953. Rosella was a busy farm wife and mother with a family of seven children. She had a talent for growing things and had many house plants and a beautiful garden. She did lots of canning and baking for her family. Rosella helped in the kitchen at the Farm Court Supper Club for a couple of years and she regularly brought baked foods, garden produce and flowers to the Franciscan Sisters living at St. Elizabeth Convent. She was a very active member of Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis, belonging to the church choir, the St. Elizabeth Mission group, the Daughters of Isabella and the Christian Mothers. Rosella also volunteered as a library aide at St. Agnes School. Upon retirement in 1980, John and Rosella moved to a home in Osakis. After four years in town they moved back to a hobby farm just north of Osakis.
Rosella had a life-long love for music. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and was also able to play several instruments, such as the violin-uke, the piano and the accordion, all without reading any notes. She loved to play cards, especially with her family, but also while visiting friends and neighbors. Many hours were spent quilting or making wagon-wheel rugs. Rosella loved to travel, whether on various bus tours or just going to see relatives both near and far. She was a kind and loving mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her seven children, Shirley (Denis) Schirmers, Bernice (Don) Messer, Jeanine Wolbeck, all of Sauk Centre, Gerald (Theresa) Boogaard of Minneapolis, Duane (Kay) Boogaard of Osakis, Linda Kress of Winder, GA, Leonard (Kimra Kirksey) Boogaard of Osakis; 27 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 8 great, great grandchildren; her siblings, Evelyn Boogaard of Osakis, Catherine (Merlyn) Hotvedt of Plymouth, Clarence (Betty) Rutten of Butler, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Welcoming her home are her parents, her husband, John (2005), grandson, Kenneth Kallstrom, great granddaughter, Madison Schmiesing, son-in-laws, George Kress and Donald Wolbeck, brothers, Lester, Albert and Charles Rutten.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Fr. Dave Petron officiating. Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis. The honorary pallbearers are the church Organ Choir members and the St. Elizabeth Mission Circle. Active bearers are Michele and Heidi Schirmers, Lori Messer-Nilles, Barbara Tabatt, Melissa Hansen, Shana Rachey, Kris Wolbeck, Johanna Boogaard.
