LIFE HISTORY FOR THELMA QUISTORFF
Thelma Quistorff, age 74 of Osakis left this world to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Thelma Marie Johnson was born on March 2, 1933 in Birchdale Township, Todd County, MN to Albin and Marie (Engel) Johnson. She grew up on a farm in Todd County. She first went to work for the Swift Company in Sauk Centre. She later did waitressing work. On May 5, 1951 she was united in marriage to Orville Quistorff in Sauk Centre, MN. They farmed for many years east of Osakis. Thelma was busy on the farm helping with the milking and doing outdoor work as well as raising ten children. During the summer she could often be found out baling hay and always had a large garden of flowers and vegetables to tend. She canned many quarts of fruits and vegetables each year. Thelma loved life in the country. She enjoyed nature and kept her bird feeders full of seed so she could watch the many different kinds of birds that would come to feed. She kept her sewing machine going each winter making blankets and baptismal gowns for her grandchildren. She also liked to work on the puzzles she got from her grandkids. Thelma always looked forward to the time she spent each summer fishing with her family at a cabin in northern Minnesota.
Thelma was a long time member of the Sauk Valley Lutheran Church and belonged to the ladies aid. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed and always remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Orville Quistorff of Osakis; her children, Clara (Al) Nathe of Melrose, Richard (Jean) Quistorff of Wentzville, MO, Daniel (Mary Lou) Quistorff of Osakis, Susan (Ed) Wallin of West Union, Mary Jo (Matthew) Bondy of Lennox, S.D., Jim (Lori) Quistorff of Osakis, Molly (Jim Gylsen) Quistorff of Hancock, Cora (David) Pry and Deb (Shawn) Larsen, all of Morris; 31 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Lambert (Marie) Johnson of Mesquite, TX and a sister, Cleo (Jerry) Anderson of Arlington, TX; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, David, grandson, Samuel Quistorff, great granddaughter, Sabrina Trebus; four brothers, Elmer, Clarence, Arthur and Victor Johnson; a sister, Erma Larson.
Funeral services for Thelma were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Sauk Valley Lutheran Church in rural Osakis with Rev. Steve Hilde officiating. Interment was at the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural West Union. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Sauk Valley Ladies Aid, Ruth & Ron Sherman, Sharon & Harold Walter, John & Jan Terfehr, Mae Harsh and Millie Blank. Active casketbearers were Mike and Mark Quistorff, Willie Sauer, Mark Portiin, Mike Nynas, Steve Larson, Jim Johnson and Paul Engel.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
