On January 31, 1943 Roland and Myrtle (Popham) Mead became parents of a beautiful baby girl that they named Barbara Lee.  She was one of three children and moved with her family to Osakis, MN when she was young.  In 1960, Barb graduated from Osakis High School.  She attended school at Mankato State University.  She married her soulmate, Merle Harth on April 6, 1963 at the United Methodist Church in Osakis.  After five years in Plymouth working at Honeywell, they returned to Osakis in 1968.  In addition to raising their two children, Barb became a teacher for the Head Start program at Osakis Elementary School.  When the opportunity arose to purchase a restaurant in Alexandria, the Harths began a new venture.  They worked together and operated the Coffee Pot Café for twenty-two years.  Barb did the waitressing and daily baking.  After selling the café, Barb worked as a dietician at the Douglas County Hospital, retiring in 2014.  She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Osakis.  She was active in the Ladies Aid and as a Sunday School teacher.  After its closing, she joined the UCC in Alexandria, MN.

Barb was an amazing woman who valued her family and loved being with them.  She was a proud grandma who spoiled her grandkids with love and attention.  She was a huge sports fan who followed both the college and professional teams, especially enjoying baseball and football.  She was also the number one fan at all of her family’s sporting events, too.  She stayed active herself by either going golfing, bowling or camping with her family.  She had a green thumb and liked to work in her vegetable and flower gardens.  Barb loved animals and had a kind heart for all of God’s creatures.  She will live on in the hearts of her family and many friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Merle Harth of Osakis; her son, Kyle Harth of Osakis and a daughter, Amy Weller of Alexandria; 5 grandchildren, Luke Hearn, Leah (great granddaughter, Koriana Tobish) Hearn, McLane Hearn, Ty Weller and Gabriel Weller; a; her sister, Marilyn (Dale) Roth of Deer River.  Preceding her in death are her parents and a brother, George Mead.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Lillian Building in Osakis with Rev. Michael Fritz officiating.  Musicians are Carol VanVranken and Dana Hetland.  Interment is at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis, MN with casket bearers, Ty and Gabriel Weller, Luke and Leah Hearn, Kami Pribnow and Kari Kraemer.
