Marlan Weickert

August 16, 1929 — November 5, 2019

Alexandria, MN

Marlan Weickert, age 90 of Alexandria, formerly of Bertha, passed into his new life on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019 from the Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria where he was a resident.

Marlan Otto Weickert was born on August 16, 1929 in Bertha Township, MN to Otto and Irene (Reetz) Weickert.  He grew up on the family farm and learned quickly how to care for the dairy herd and tackle the many responsibilities on a farm.  On March 20, 1949 Marlan married the love of his life, Jeanette Robben at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha, MN.  They were the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Carol and Bonnie.  Marlan and Jeanette operated their dairy farm for many years.  They also raised hogs and beef cattle in addition to managing many acres of crops.  Marlan loved country life and appreciated the beauty of God’s creation.  He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran in Bertha until moving to Alexandria after retirement and joining Good Shepherd Lutheran.  He enjoyed his involvement in the Dart Ball leagues at both congregations.  His other hobbies included deer hunting each season, winter ice fishing and spearing, bowling and card parties.  He and Jeanette also loved to take their motorhome across the country on yearly sightseeing trips to visit relatives and their many friends and fishing trips to Canada. They especially enjoyed their cabin on Block Lake near Parkers Prairie and having family gatherings and reunions there.  Marlan was a kind and loving father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly remembered by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Carol (Bruce) Gorghuber and Bonnie (Kris Price) Craig, all of Alexandria; 5 grandchildren, Eric (Bonita) Gorghuber, Kari (Tim) Lauthen, Crystal (Kris) Sayre, Darrin (Shannon) Craig, Jeffrey Craig; 9 great grandchildren, Mason Gorghuber, Megan and Brian Lauthen, Taylor, Ashton and Makena Sayre, Kadin, Kendal and Karter Craig; 2 sisters, Violet Rausch of Fridley and Beverly (Dean) Hetland of Eagle Bend; many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jeanette on March 9th of this year and two infant brothers.

Funeral services are Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Tim Schiller officiating with visitation beginning at the church at 10 am.  Interment is at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bertha, MN.  Active and honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Arrangements by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
