Mary Stirzl

Mary Stirzl of Osakis entered into her new life from her residence in Osakis, MN on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the age of 90 years.  Funeral services will be at St. Mary's  of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, MN at 11:00 am on Sat., Nov 30, 2019 with a gathering time beginning one hour prior at 10:00 am.

Mary T Stirzl was born on march 19, 1929 in St. Paul, MN to Frank and Helen (Reagan) Stirzl.  Mary attended St. Francis DeSales School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1947.  She played trumpet and bugle in the band and marched in many different drum corps.  Her hobbies were walking a mile a day, reading, fishing, gardening, knitting and playing cards.  Mary joined the Women's Army Corp WAC in 1959 and served her country, receiving an honorable discharge in 1960.  She purchased a home in 1969 in St. Paul and lived there until she moved with her brother, Skip and friend, Betty to live near Lake Osakis in the year 2000.  Mary's employment over the years included working with her mother in their restaurant, at 3M as a cook, at the Dayton's/Target store and finally for thirty years Mary worked as a Food Prep Supervisor for the St. Paul Public Schools, retiring in 1990.  Mary was an avid Viking fan.  After her retirement and move to Osakis, Mary volunteered at the Long Prairie Nursing Home for sixteen years.

Mary is survived by her brother, FJ 'Skip' Stirzl and friend, Betty Anderson of Osakis; nephews, Richard Rauer, Jeff and Curt Stirzl and nieces, Regan Rauer, Lisa and Vicki Stirzl; and many great nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Stirzl, a sister, Helen Rauer, a nephew, Robert Rauer, niece, Patty Rauer and great nephew, Chico Rauer.

Interment is at the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN with active pallbearers, Jeff, Curt, Lisa, Vicki, Tyler and Logan Stirzl.

Arrangements are being handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
