Mary Jo Walsh

April 11, 1956 — July 3, 2020

Osakis

Mary Jo Walsh, age 64 of Osakis passed away July 3, 2020 at her home in rural Osakis surrounded by her family.

Mary Jo was born on April 11, 1956 with her twin brother, Michael and was excitedly welcomed home by her siblings and parents, James and Phyllis (Wilde) Schmidt.  She graduated from Osakis High School with the Class of 1974.  For many years Mary Jo used her beautiful smile and excellent ‘people’ skills as a waitress and cashier at area restaurants. On March 15, 1985 she married Robert Walsh in Alexandria.  They made their home on a farm just west of Osakis and Mary Jo did the bookkeeping for their various business ventures.  She loved living in the country and could be found out working in her garden, tending to the animals or mowing the lawn.  She was an excellent cook who spoiled her family with homemade meals and goodies. Another of her talents was creating beautiful things on her sewing machine, a skill she learned from her mother that served her well all her life.  She loved to take care of her grandchildren and spoil them with love and lots of treats.  Having lost family members to cancer and fighting the battle herself, she was a faithful participant in the annual Relay for Life walk.  She was also a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis.  She taught her family about patience and courage and facing adversity with head held high.  Blessed be her memory.

She will live on in the hearts of her family, Robert Walsh of Osakis; children, Jamie (Rachelle) Pfeffer of Alexandria, Charity (Joe) Kuperus of Alexandria, Cassie (T J ) Mead of Osakis, Robert Walsh, Jr., of Osakis, Wesley Walsh Osakis, Martin (Danielle Carlson) Walsh of Alexandria; 2 grandchildren, Logan Pfeffer and Mia Kuperus; her mother, Phyllis Schmidt of Osakis; siblings, Cheryl Reynolds of Redwood Falls, her twin, Michael (Romona) Schmidt of Carlos, Dennis Schmidt of South Dakota and Danita (Kyle) Ward of Farwell; many nieces and nephews.

Ready to greet her in heaven is her father, James; sisters, Lynnette Schmidt and Fayette Tenhoff.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis, MN.  Due to COVID-19 rules and the capacity at church, the family encourages you to join them at a public reception in honor of Mary Jo at the Osakis VFW Post #7902 beginning at 12 noon.  A visitation will be held for her on Wednesday, July 8 from 4:30 – 7 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.  Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis with pallbearers, Jamie Pfeffer, Robert Walsh, Jr., Wesley Walsh, Martin Walsh, Craig Tenhoff and Devon Ward.
