Nancy Darlene Huitt was born on October 21, 1942 in Omaha, NE to parents, Norval (Shorty) and Ethel (Scott) Huitt. She met her soulmate and lifelong partner, John Markey, Jr when he worked at her father’s auto shop as a car mechanic. On August 12, 1961 John and Nancy were married in Omaha, NE. They lived in Omaha, then Cherokee, IA, and onto Kearney, MO until 1975 when the family moved to Windom, MN where John was employed by the Caldwell Packing Co and later BSI of Windom. During her time in Windom, Nancy worked at the local fabric shops and at Runnings. After 16 years in Windom, they moved to Marshall, MN when John began working for Carlson-Stewart Refrigeration. In 1992, John and Nancy moved to a home on Lake Leven, near Villard, MN. Nancy became a Paraprofessional at the Minnewaska Schools.

Nancy was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a beautiful seamstress, knitter and cross-stitcher whose projects often won blue ribbons at fairs. Her cooking and baking skills were some of the best, especially her chocolate chip cookies which have been known to cause a few tussles between her kids and grandkids. She loved to travel and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed her bird feeders and her pet dogs, Princess, Buffy, the “Whispers”, the “Shadows”, Sheba, Sadie Jayne, Rudy, Cocoa, Casper, Snuggles, Elisa and Lucy. Her favorite thing in the whole world was spending time with her grandchildren. Many memories were made with them at Grand’s Camp at Clearwater Forest in Deerwood, MN.
